Fig. 1 · Four scores from Google

What you get

  • Four scores from Google. Speed, accessibility, best practices and SEO, each from 0 to 100. They come from Google’s PageSpeed Insights test, which loads your site the way a phone would.
  • A few checks of my own. Does the page have a clear title and description? Is the address secure (https)? Does it fit a phone screen and let people zoom in? Can a customer tap your phone number to call?
  • The top fixes in plain English. Not a wall of numbers. A short list of what to fix.
  • A report by email, if you want one. Add your email and I’ll send you the full report. Leave it blank and you still see your results on the page.

There’s no account to create and no card to enter.

Questions

Common questions

What does the Site Check look at?

It runs your site through Google’s PageSpeed Insights test, loading it the way a phone would. You get four scores: speed, accessibility, best practices and SEO. Then it runs a few checks of my own:

  • A clear page title and description
  • A secure (https) address
  • A page that fits a phone screen and lets people zoom in
  • A phone number you can tap to call
  • Descriptions on your photos

At the end you get the top five fixes in plain English.

Is the Site Check really free?

Yes. There’s no charge, no account and no card. You don’t even have to give me your email. At the end I’ll offer to fix what it found, and you’re free to ignore that.

What happens to my web address and email?

Your web address goes to Google’s PageSpeed test, because that’s what produces the scores. I save the address and the results. Your email is optional. If you add it, I send the full report there and keep it with your results so I can follow up with you. The privacy policy has the details.

What do the scores mean?

Each score runs from 0 to 100. For speed, Google counts 90 and up as good, 50 to 89 as needs improvement, and below 50 as poor. The test loads your page the way a mid-range phone on a cell network would, so it’s a tougher test than your office Wi-Fi. Scores also move a little from one run to the next. And the SEO score only checks the basics, not where you rank.
